The Life of a Repo Man is Always Intense...

Jay Shaw

Tyler Stout

Ultra rad cover art by Mondo artists Jay Shaw and Tyler Stout created for today's release of
the deluxe Criterion Collection Blu-ray/DVD editions of this 80's Cult Classic.

Such a quintessential 80's movie - the cast, the killer music, the weird low key humor, and the
quirky low budget style. To my group of friends back in college - this was "our movie" - we watched
it repeatedly - and my husband and I still quote from it on regular basis.

Love That Joker - Animated Dark Knight Returns Pt 2, Harley's Joker Web Series, Killing Joke Statue & Sideshow 12'" Figure

Part 2 of DC's animated adaptation of Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns is available today on DVD/Blu-ray. Joker is the featured villain of the second half of the story and he's voiced by Michael Emerson this time. Which is a pretty cool choice - even if I can never help feeling the Joker's voice is just not right in these animated offerings when it's not not Mark Hamill's.

Here are a couple of Joker-centric clips via Batman-News.com.

Meanwhile In Other Joker Related News...

The incredible (an yes - I'll say it - THE BEST) Joker cosplay artist Harley's Joker will be playing
the Clown Prince of Crime in The Batman Chronicles - a web series seeking fan support at Indiegogo.
Check out the teaser and give the project your support if you can.

...and lastly here are a couple of upcoming must have Joker collectibles.

I saw this impressive Kotobukiya statue based on The Killing Joke on display at NYCC back in October.
It was large and highly detailed - but I had no idea it also includes awesome light & sound features.

And the 1/6th DC Comics likeness Joker Action Figure from Sideshow...
... just looks incredible.

Prometheus Unused - Favorite Alternate Movie Poster Art

Prometheus is out on home vid today - various DVD/Blu-Ray combos packed with tons of bonus material.
But, you can also find lots of great concept art, stills, and extras - like the really cool unused movie poster
ideas above - on the extensive film site. The movie is full of titanically scaled and eerily impressive imagery,
Micheal Fassbender's android David has an innocent creepiness that is almost endearing, and I really
enjoyed the the visual homage and story parallels to the original Alien film. And, since all I was
expecting was a franchise launch/re-launch - and not some kind of "revelation" - I wasn't disappointed.
It's a fun ride with epic eye candy and plenty of threads left hanging for sequels.

SDCC Poster for Avengers Short Film "ITEM 47" and A Clip

ITEM 47 is the intriguing Avengers Sidestory Short Film that will be included on the Avengers
DVD/Blu-Ray release. It revolves around 2 civilians who find a Chitauri weapon left behind after
the epic NYC battle. The poster revealed via EW.com is for the screening at SDCC this weekend
which is also tied into the new The Avengers Initiative: A Marvel Second Screen Experience App.
It's pretty clear Marvel is not just basking in the success of the Avengers but moving forward with
new ways to keep interest in their continued movie universe plans. Clip via Collider.

John Carter Movie Concept Art - DVD/Blu-Ray Release Today

John Carter now on DVD/Blu-Ray.
So enjoy a gallery of some great concept art for the film.

Various Dejah Thoris concepts from the Art of John Carter Book

Thark & Woola by Michael Kutsche

Airhips & Vehicles by Ryan Church

Despite some really harsh "fan rage" on my part when viewing the preview footage and images, I actually ended up liking John Carter. It's often frustratingly flawed - but it is a good humored fantasy adventure, with some real iconic Pulp moments, featuring two very appealing leads, cool looking "Green Martian Aliens", and some really fantastic looking battle airships. I'm still not a fan of the "realistic" visual style choices that often leave the movie feeling too Earthbound or worse too Star Warsy.
It's really sad and very surprising it did as badly as it did in theaters (even with Disney's odd mismanagement), hopefully it will see a new life in Home Entertainment.

First Images of DC's Animated Batman: Dark Knight Returns

Heat Vision revealed the first images, initial voice cast, and other details on The DC animated version of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns today. Big news is Peter Weller (Robocop) will be voicing Bats/Bruce, and they'll be braking Frank Miller's epic future Batman tale into a 2 part DVD release.
Some more details and photos @THR. But...no mention of who'll be voicing the Joker yet. Hmm...

Retro Apes, Most Beautiful Ape & Tiny Puppet Apes Herald Rise of the Planet of the Apes DVD Release

Adult Swim presened its own unique ad for the DVD/Blu-Ray release today 12/13/11.

The next time someone in Hollywood gets the bright idea to reboot, remake or re-watever a popular franchise they better look at this movie for how to do it right. This went from "OMG - Why did they make another Apes movie?!?" to "OMG - You have to see it!!!". Combining the perfect mix of fresh ideas, clever homage,  top notch FX, and real heart - it was probably the best movie this summer.

Artist Anthony Lister was commissioned to create this cool wall mural in LA to mark the DVD release.

And just for fun - some photos from behind the scenes during filming of the Original movies (back in the day - before motion capture) as well as the Most Beautiful Ape Contest Promotion.
