Batman Black & White Returns - Issue #1 Preview + 50 Statue Vid

The "Batman: Black and White" anthology comic re-launches today Sept 4th.
This was always a terrifically creative series with pretty fantastic art - and judging from these
few preview pages - looks like that has not changed one bit. Images via DC Comics.

The comic also inspired the consistently superb Batman: B&W Statue Series.
The 50th Bat-statue based on the art of Sean Murphy was released in August
and even gets featured on one of the the comic's variant covers.
Plus DC Collectibles put together this WANT inducing video showcasing all 50 statues.

Love That Joker - Animated Dark Knight Returns Pt 2, Harley's Joker Web Series, Killing Joke Statue & Sideshow 12'" Figure

Part 2 of DC's animated adaptation of Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns is available today on DVD/Blu-ray. Joker is the featured villain of the second half of the story and he's voiced by Michael Emerson this time. Which is a pretty cool choice - even if I can never help feeling the Joker's voice is just not right in these animated offerings when it's not not Mark Hamill's.

Here are a couple of Joker-centric clips via Batman-News.com.

The incredible (an yes - I'll say it - THE BEST) Joker cosplay artist Harley's Joker will be playing
the Clown Prince of Crime in The Batman Chronicles - a web series seeking fan support at Indiegogo.
Check out the teaser and give the project your support if you can.

...and lastly here are a couple of upcoming must have Joker collectibles.

I saw this impressive Kotobukiya statue based on The Killing Joke on display at NYCC back in October.
It was large and highly detailed - but I had no idea it also includes awesome light & sound features.

And the 1/6th DC Comics likeness Joker Action Figure from Sideshow...
... just looks incredible.

DC Collectibles Panel

DC Collectibles announced 2 new statue lines (Superman Metallic & Bombshells) and showcased upcoming items for 2013 in the DC Booth and at the Collectibles Panel on Thursday 10/11. My friend ans Master Sculptor Jean St. Jean was on of the guests along with artist Lee Bermejo, artist/co-publisher Jim Lee, other sculptors, and DC product managers. Jean has worked with Bermejo several times creating statues based on Bermajo's work (Batman B&W, Before Watchmen Rorschach, and now Superman) and they discussed how they felt their detail filled 3d and 2d styles were were well matched. It was also very interesting to hear from both Bermajo and Jim Lee how working on statue designs differed from drawing comic art - that they had to think more realistically, and more three dimensionally, and Jim Lee even joked he sometimes even uses the finished statues as drawing reference. While what I've shared here are only my biased favorites, everything they presented was appealing and very well done. Items will be available late 2012 through 2013 at Comic Shops and the online DC Collectibles Shop.
