Francis Ford Coppola's Enigmatic "Twixt " Trailer Veers Into David Lynch Territory

Actually it's more like David Lynch by way of William Castle, as Coppola plans to tour with the film and preform live edits during screenings to fit audience response. Meaning viewers will shape the story and every film experience will be unique. /Film has a really good article about the concept and how it was shown by Coppola at the San Diego Comic-Con. I love ideas like this, that both play with new technology and make film going an event - a much more creative approach to getting people into theaters than just forcing 3D on everything. But, while the live gimmick hearkens back to Castle -- the weird-dude-drifts-into-creepy town/hallucinatory-dream-imagery does seem more like a riff on classic Lynch. It certainly will be interesting to see where this experiment goes.

Extra: Check out the documentary Spine Tingler! The William Castle Story for more about the showman filmmaker who interjected audience participation gimmicks into his horror/suspense films of the late 50's and 1960's.
